The Bayeux Calvados-Normandy Award has officially launched the call for entries for its 33rd edition, seeking the world’s most compelling war correspondence.
Scheduled for October 5 to 11, 2026, the event continues its long-standing tradition of honoring journalists who report from the heart of international conflicts.
The 2026 international jury will be chaired by the renowned BBC correspondent Lyse Doucet.
Submitted reports must center on conflict situations, their impact on civilian populations, or stories dedicated to the defense of democracy and freedom.
Funding and benefits
A total of ten prizes are up for grabs, providing significant financial support for independent journalism.
Seven primary trophies, including those for written press, radio, and photography, carry a €7,000 prize each, sponsored by partners such as Nikon and the Calvados Department.
Beyond the major trophies, the competition offers special honors like the €3,000 Video Image Prize and the €4,000 Ouest-France – Jean Marin Prize.
Winners gain international recognition and the opportunity to have their work showcased during the prestigious awards week in Normandy.
Application requirements and eligibility
Candidates can apply across five media categories: photography, radio, television (short and long formats), written press, and the young reporter award.
For the 2026 edition, the young reporter category specifically highlights photojournalism, requiring a story realized over a two-year window.
Specific technical criteria must be met for each submission: radio reports should be between one and six minutes, while “Grand Format” television entries can extend up to 35 minutes.
Written press applications may consist of a single article or a series of up to three pieces on the same subject.
Reports must have been originally published or broadcast between June 1, 2025, and May 31, 2026.
Notably, the award remains inclusive of modern media landscapes, accepting reports that were published exclusively on digital platforms alongside traditional outlets.
Deadline
The final date to submit entries is June 5, 2026.
Journalists must send their applications, including the required entry forms and download links for their work, to info@prixbayeux.org to be considered by the jury.
