Applications are now officially open for the third cycle of The World Around Young Climate Prize, an initiative designed to spotlight and support the next generation of environmental leaders.
Starting on Earth Day 2026, the program invites young changemakers from across the globe to share stories of their local, scalable climate action projects.
Selected finalists will join a prestigious cohort of 25 young pioneers who are actively shaping the future of climate action.
Past participants have described the experience as a transformative “pivotal moment” that provides essential networks and global recognition for their frontline work.
Funding and benefits
Winners gain access to unparalleled professional support, including individual mentorship from world-renowned designers like Paola Antonelli and Bruce Mau.
This bespoke guidance is aimed at providing the tools necessary to scale and strengthen their existing environmental initiatives through one-on-one sessions.
Furthermore, the program features a three-month Design Academy where finalists participate in weekly workshops and masterclasses led by global experts in storytelling, architecture, and science.
These sessions are designed to help young leaders translate their complex work into narratives that resonate with wider audiences.
While entry to the prize is completely free, the benefits include a three-year fellowship and the opportunity to travel to New York City.
Finalists will present their work on stage at The World Around Summit during Earth Week in April 2027.
Application requirements and eligibility
To qualify, applicants must be between the ages of 13 and 25 and serve as a founder or co-founder of a live climate-action project with demonstrable impact.
While the prize emphasizes design as a driver for solutions, eligible projects can span various sectors including activism, education, and conservation.
The application process requires a two-minute video introducing the project, along with supporting materials that provide evidence of the work’s impact.
Submissions are accepted in both English and Spanish, and teams of up to three people are welcome to apply provided every member meets the age requirements.
Deadline
Prospective applicants have until June 30, 2026, at 11:59 PM ET to submit their materials through the official portal.
Following the closure of applications, a jury of industry leaders will review submissions to select the finalists who will be announced during NY Climate Week in September 2026.
