Ocean Conservancy has officially launched its 2026 photo contest, inviting photographers of all skill levels to document the beauty and challenges of the world’s oceans.

From the smallest nudibranch to the largest breaching whale, the organization seeks images that tell stories and inspire environmental protection.

Funding and benefits

Successful entrants stand to win significant financial rewards for their work.

The “Judges’ Choice” grand prize winner will receive a $2,000 cash prize, while the winners of the “People’s Choice” and “Staff Choice” categories will each receive $1,000.

Beyond the cash incentives, winners will gain substantial exposure through Ocean Conservancy’s digital channels.

All winning photographs are slated for features on the organization’s website and social media platforms to be shared with a global audience.

The ultimate honor belongs to the Grand Prize winner, whose work will be immortalized in print.

This top-tier selection is scheduled to be featured in Ocean Conservancy’s 2028 calendar, ensuring long-term recognition for the photographer’s talent.

Application requirements and eligibility

The contest is open to a wide range of skill levels, from professional photographers to casual observers who capture rare moments.

Submissions are organized into four distinct categories: Human Impact, Marine Wildlife, Spectacular Seascapes, and People and Our Ocean.

To apply, participants must provide their full contact details along with a title, description, and location for their photo.

It is mandatory for all entrants to read and agree to the contest’s official Terms & Conditions to be eligible for consideration.

Additionally, the organization emphasizes the importance of legal consent for photographs featuring people.

Any submission that includes the likeness of an individual must be accompanied by a completed Release and Consent form submitted alongside the entry.

Deadline

The submission window is brief, opening on Friday, May 1, and closing on Thursday, May 28, 2026.

Following the submission period, a public voting phase will run from May 29 to June 5, with the official winners scheduled for announcement on June 30, 2026.
