The Canadian High Commission has officially opened the 2026 call for applications for the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) in Mozambique.
This initiative is specifically designed to support small-scale, high-impact projects that are conceived and designed by local partners.
The program focuses on two key thematic priorities: promoting inclusive markets and entrepreneurship, as well as supporting democratic governance and human rights.
By funding these local endeavors, Canada aims to strengthen bilateral relations while supporting the essential work of civil society organizations.
Funding and benefits
Selected projects typically receive financial contributions ranging between $30,000 and $50,000 Canadian Dollars.
For exceptionally high-impact proposals, the program allows for a maximum potential allocation of up to $100,000 CAD.
Eligible costs covered by the fund include project-specific salaries, administrative expenses, and training activities.
The grant also supports capital expenditures such as office equipment and infrastructure leases required to carry out the project’s goals.
Applicants should note that the fund does not cover vehicle purchases, luxury goods, or the core recurring costs of an organization.
Furthermore, project activities are generally expected to be completed by February 28, 2027, to remain within the program’s fiscal timeline.
Application requirements and eligibility
The fund is primarily directed at local non-governmental and community organizations working at the grassroots level.
Local academic institutions and international NGOs are also eligible to apply, provided they are collaborating with local partners on projects of a local nature.
To begin the process, organizations must request the designated application form via email at CFLI-MPUTO@international.gc.ca.
All submissions must be completed in either English or French and must include a mandatory budget document to be considered for assessment.
Deadline
Interested parties must submit their completed proposals by the firm deadline of May 14 at 23:59 (GMT +2).
Due to the high volume of applications expected, the embassy will only contact those applicants whose proposals are successfully selected by the committee.
