The European Union has officially launched the second call for proposals under its MMD Grant Facility, seeking projects that strengthen migration and mobility dialogues between Africa and Europe.
This initiative aims to support operational activities and generate new research and policy insights within the framework of the Africa-EU Migration and Mobility Dialogue (MMD) Support Programme.
Funding and benefits
The facility offers an overall indicative budget of €600,000, which is funded by the European Commission’s DG INTPA.
These funds are intended to drive projects focusing on critical themes such as climate-induced migration, gender, and migration-related health issues.
Successful applicants can receive individual grants ranging from €100,000 to €150,000.
Furthermore, the facility may provide financing for up to 100% of eligible costs in cases where such full support is duly justified.
Application requirements and eligibility
This opportunity is open to non-profit organizations, including civil society groups, diaspora organizations, and academic institutions like universities or research centers.
Lead applicants are required to have been established for at least two years and must be registered in either an African Union (AU) or EU Member State.
To ensure collaborative impact, the projects must be implemented in no more than three countries, with at least one being an AU Member State.
EU-based lead applicants are generally required to include an AU-based co-applicant, unless the lead is a diaspora organization.
It is important to note that organizations previously awarded a grant during the first call of the MMD Grant Facility are not eligible to apply this time.
Additionally, each organization is permitted to participate in only one application, whether as a lead, co-applicant, or affiliate.
Deadline
Interested parties must submit their applications through the ICMPD Electronic Application Platform.
To assist potential applicants, an online information session is scheduled for April 16, 2026, and questions can be submitted via the platform until April 23.
The final submission deadline is strictly set for May 1, 2026, at 17:00 (Vienna time). All selected projects must have a maximum duration of six months and be completed by March 1, 2027.
