APPLY: InteRussia opens 2026 Journalism Fellowship for Sub-Saharan African media professionals

The InteRussia team has announced a call for applications for its fellowship program designed specifically for journalists across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Hosted by the Sputnik International News Agency and Radio, the initiative is part of the broader SputnikPro program.

Scheduled to take place in Moscow from July 6 to August 1, 2026, the fellowship provides a platform for international media professionals to engage with Russia’s current media landscape.

The entire InteRussia Fellowship program will be conducted in English. Participants will have the opportunity to gain professional experience from leading specialists at the Sputnik news agency.

This includes exchanging expertise with colleagues from various countries while attending tutorials and seminars.

The itinerary features meetings with top Russian experts and visits to major educational and research platforms across the city.

Practical workshops will cover diverse aspects of contemporary journalism, from digital media to audio platforms.

Funding and benefits

The organizers of the InteRussia Fellowship provide comprehensive travel support, covering the cost of round-trip transportation from the participant’s place of residence to Moscow.

Accommodation is also included, with fellows staying in double rooms at a local hotel.

To assist with expenses during the four-week program, each participant will receive a scholarship of 30,000 rubles.

This financial aid is intended to support the fellow throughout the duration of the fellowship.

However, journalists must cover their own costs for meals, medical insurance, and any necessary visa application fees.

Application requirements and eligibility

The call is open to citizens of Sub-Saharan African countries who are currently residing outside of the Russian Federation.

Applicants must be between the ages of 25 and 40 and possess a minimum B2 level of English proficiency.

Candidates should be working professionals in print, digital, or audio media. Crucially, they must not have any current academic or employment affiliation with Russian educational or professional organizations at the time of their application.

Deadline

Prospective fellows must submit their applications through the Gorchakov Fund website, including a link to their professional portfolio.

The final deadline for all submissions is May 19, 2026, at 23:59 Moscow time
