The LEO Foundation has officially opened its global call for 2026 Research Grants to support the best skins diseases (dermatology) projects worldwide.

This initiative seeks to fund scientific endeavors that deepen the understanding of skin diseases and their underlying medicinal or pharmacological mechanisms.

Researchers are encouraged to submit projects exploring the medicinal, biological, chemical, or pharmacological causes of dermatological conditions.

The Foundation also welcomes studies on how skin diseases impact the quality of life and create broader societal costs.

Funding and benefits

The Foundation provides financial backing to projects that address clinical issues and those at risk of developing skin disease.

Grants are awarded based on a rigorous evaluation by a panel of independent global experts known as the Scientific Evaluation Committee.

While the program supports essential research costs, it restricts administration or overhead expenses to a maximum of 5%.

The grant does not cover participation in domestic meetings, passive conference attendance, or expenses incurred prior to obtaining the grant.

Applicants who pass the initial administrative screening will undergo an external review to ensure scientific excellence.

Final funding decisions are made by the LEO Foundation Board of Trustees, after which applicants are notified of the results.

Application requirements and eligibility

The competition is open to international researchers working on projects that improve skin health outcomes.

All applications must be submitted through the Foundation’s online portal to be considered eligible for support.

The Foundation explicitly excludes research concerning skin cancer or projects involving commercial companies.

Additionally, commercial drug testing and applications from other foundations or patient organizations are ineligible for this funding.

Prospective applicants are urged to review the official application guide carefully before beginning the process.

This document contains mandatory requirements and detailed instructions to ensure the proposal complies with the Foundation’s standards.

Deadline

For the current cycle, the most immediate deadline for Research Grants (Round 2) is March 19, 2026, at 16:00 CEST.

This round follows the conclusion of the first 2026 call which ended in early January.

A final funding cycle for the year, Research Grants (Round 3), will open on June 29 and close on August 25, 2026.

Interested researchers must finalize their digital submissions by the 16:00 CEST cutoff for each respective round.
