Participants are tasked with building innovative ideas that address critical real-world problems within the Nigerian market.
The Heirs Insurance competition focuses on four key areas: claims processing, underwriting, customer experience, and product distribution.
By bringing together top tech talents and industry experts, the hackathon aims to pave the way for democratizing insurance.
The goal is to provide simplified, quick, and reliable access to coverage for a broader population across Africa.
Funding and benefits
Top performers will compete for substantial cash rewards, with a grand prize of ₦5,000,000 awarded to the first-place team to fuel their innovation.
This financial injection is designed to support the development of high-impact AI solutions.
The rewards extend to the runners-up, with second and third-place winners receiving ₦3,000,000 and ₦1,000,000 respectively.
In addition to cash, participants will earn certificates and official swag to recognize their achievements.
Beyond financial incentives, participants will collaborate with tech mentors and industry veterans.
This provides a unique platform for students to showcase their skills in front of experts and build valuable professional networks.
Application requirements and eligibility
Applicants must assemble a team of three students from the same Nigerian institution and select a team lead.
Organizers recommend a diverse team structure, including a developer, designer, and project manager, for the best results.
The competition is strictly for undergraduates who are not directly or indirectly related to any member of the Heirs Insurance Group. Employees, directors, and their family members are among those explicitly excluded from participating.
Prospective teams must download an official proposal template and submit their completed ideas as a PDF via the digital platform.
All designs and concepts submitted by the winning teams will become the exclusive property of Heirs Insurance Group.
Deadline
The window for submissions is strictly time-bound to ensure a competitive review process by industry experts. All proposals must be finalized and submitted by February 16, 2026.
