Wageningen University & Research (WUR) has officially launched its search for high-achieving international students for its 2026–2027 Master’s scholarship programmes.

These awards aim to attract outstanding global citizens to one of the world’s top-ranked institutions for agriculture and environmental sciences.

The university is currently scouting for prospective MSc students who intend to begin their academic journey in September 2026.

Currently enrolled students are not eligible, as the program specifically targets new talent who can contribute to the university’s world-class research environment.

Key scholarship tracks include the Excellence Programme for non-European applicants and the Africa Scholarship Programme (ASP), which is dedicated to capacity building across the African continent.

Additionally, the Anne van den Ban Fund (ABF) and the Dutch government-supported NL Scholarship provide further financial pathways for qualified candidates.

Funding and benefits

The Excellence Programme offers a full tuition fee waiver at Wageningen University for the entire 24-month duration of the master’s degree.

This initiative is specifically designed for students who demonstrate the potential to transition into PhD research after completing their studies.

For students under the Africa Scholarship Programme, the package is even more comprehensive, covering full tuition and a living allowance.

The ASP also covers round-trip travel between the student’s home country and the Netherlands, alongside visa costs and health insurance.

Application requirement

To qualify for these opportunities, candidates must first secure unconditional admission to a Wageningen MSc programme by applying through the standard university portal.

Only international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) or specifically African citizens for the ASP, are eligible to apply.

Academic standards for these awards are exceptionally high, requiring a First Class Honours Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent.

Applicants must also maintain a minimum GPA of 80% or higher to be considered by the university’s selection committee.

The selection process is conducted by invitation only, meaning there is no separate scholarship application form unless a student is prompted by the university.

The committee reviews all eligible MSc applications and sends invitations based on academic excellence and specific criteria.

Deadline

Prospective students must submit their complete MSc application no later than February 1, 2026, to remain in the running for these prestigious funds.

Missing this initial application window will result in a loss of eligibility for the 2026 scholarship cycle.

Shortlisted candidates who meet all the criteria will receive an invitation notification by email on April 1, 2026.

Final results for the scholarship awards are expected to be announced to the winners on May 7, 2026. Click here to apply. Explore more global calls on our Opportunities page
