The Institute for AI Policy and Strategy (IAPS) has officially launched its call for the 2026 AI Policy Fellowship, a three-month initiative aimed at shaping the future of global AI governance. This fully-funded program is designed for professionals from varied backgrounds who want to strengthen their practical policy skills to secure a positive future in a world with powerful AI.

Scheduled to run from June 1st to August 21st, 2026, the fellowship offers a hybrid structure. While participants have the option to work fully in-person in Washington, D.C., or remotely, all fellows are required to attend an intensive in-person residency in the U.S. capital from June 1st to June 12th.

Following the residency, participants spend 10 weeks working alongside AI policy experts who mentor them on projects intended to influence national and global policies.

Fellows engage in practical, high-impact work such as authoring policy briefs, presenting to government officials, or publishing op-eds.

Funding and benefits

The fellowship provides significant financial support to ensure participants can focus entirely on their work. Senior Fellows will receive a $22,000 stipend, while other Fellows are awarded $15,000 for their full-time participation during the three-month term.

Beyond the stipend, the program offers weekly one-on-one coaching focused on career development, project management, and productivity.

Fellows also receive ongoing feedback from IAPS researchers and full access to the institute’s extensive professional network.

Application requirement

IAPS is seeking a diverse pool of applicants from both policy and technical backgrounds, including those currently in industry, government or think tanks. The program is inclusive of various seniority levels, welcoming candidates ranging from undergraduate students to professionals with decades of experience.

The primary requirement for success is a solid understanding of the subject matter or an alignment with IAPS’s specific AI policy priorities. Successful candidates will be those capable of working independently on complex tasks like writing reports or organizing ambitious international convenings.

Deadline

Prospective fellows must act quickly to secure their place in the 2026 cohort. The final deadline for all applications is February 2nd, 2026, after which the selection process will begin for this prestigious residency. Click here to apply. Explore more global calls on our Opportunities page
