The Enhancing Diversity in Graduate Education (EDGE) Program has officially announced a new call for applications for the Mary Beth Ruskai Research Fund for Women in Mathematics.

This specialized fund is designed to support women in the mathematical sciences by providing the financial means to pursue high-impact research activities and professional development.

Funding and benefits

Successful applicants can receive grants to cover travel expenses required to attend major academic conferences or to travel to other institutions for critical research collaborations.

The award provides $5,000 to support research-related expenses.

Additionally, the fund provides support for researchers to host collaborators at their own institutions, facilitating the exchange of ideas and the advancement of complex mathematical projects.

The initiative also recognizes common professional barriers by often offering the flexibility to assist with childcare costs that may arise during necessary research-related travel.

Eligibility

The fund is primarily open to women mathematicians, with a particular focus on supporting those who have participated in the EDGE program or are at pivotal stages of their research careers.

Additionally, women who are not based at a major research university are encouraged to apply. Only applicants who are based in the United States are eligible.

Candidates must demonstrate a clear need for supplemental funding and explain how the grant will directly contribute to their academic growth and research productivity.

Application requirement

Interested scholars are required to submit a written proposal that clearly defines their research objectives and the specific activities they intend to fund.

Every application must also include a detailed budget justifying all projected costs, alongside a current Curriculum Vitae highlighting the applicant’s mathematical history and contributions.

The application package includes a rationale for funding needs of one to two pages, with conference details and anticipated costs if conference support is requested.

Applicants must also submit a research description of up to two pages excluding citations, a curriculum vitae of up to two pages, a detailed budget outline of up to one page, and information on current and pending funding support.

Deadline

Applications for this grant must be submitted by April 10, 2026. Visit the Enhanced Diversity in Graduate Education application page to apply. Explore more global calls on our Opportunities page.
