UN Women has officially launched its 2026 internship programme, inviting a new wave of global talent to support the fight for gender equality and women’s empowerment.

This initiative offers students and recent graduates hands-on experience within the United Nations system.

The program is designed to nurture future leaders by providing direct exposure to international development, policy work, and humanitarian action.

Participants work within a multicultural professional environment dedicated to eliminating discrimination against women and girls.

Internship assignments vary widely, offering roles in strategic partnerships, communications, data innovation, and policy analysis. These positions may be located at the organization’s headquarters, regional offices, or various country offices.

Most interns are tasked with supporting the design, implementation, and evaluation of real-world projects.

Benefits

While these are not salaried positions, UN Women may provide a stipend to help cover basic daily expenses like meals and local transportation.

This financial aid is typically available to those not already supported by a university or scholarship.

Beyond financial support, the program offers immense flexibility with in-person, hybrid, or remote work arrangements.

The UN Women internships last between two and six months, allowing students to fit the experience into various academic calendars.

Former participants have described the program as transformative and inspiring, providing a powerful stepping stone for careers in advocacy and research.

Application requirements

To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled in a master’s or PhD program, be in the final year of a bachelor’s degree, or have graduated within the last two years.

The organization welcomes candidates from all nationalities and academic disciplines.

Candidates must demonstrate core values such as professionalism, integrity and respect for diversity.

While prior experience in advocacy or research is an advantage, it is not a mandatory requirement for selection.

The application must be completed through the UN Women Careers Portal, as simply uploading a CV is insufficient. Shortlisted candidates will later be required to provide letters of recommendation and proof of health insurance.

Deadline

Interested individuals should note that internship assignments are offered throughout the year. Because opportunities are posted on a rolling basis, candidates are encouraged to monitor the careers portal regularly for specific openings. Click here to apply.
