Applications are now open for the 2026/2027 University of Oxford Reuters Institute Journalism Fellowship Programme.
This scheme offers mid-career journalists a rare chance to step away from their daily deadlines to explore the media industry in depth.
Fellows join a global cohort of about 30 participants annually, bringing diverse perspectives from newsrooms across the world.
Based at one of the world’s top universities, the program places journalists at the heart of cutting-edge media research.
Participants benefit from being just one hour from London, providing easy access to global news publishers like the BBC, The Guardian, and the Financial Times.
This proximity allows for high-level networking and discussions with industry peers about the future of the news industry.
Funding and benefits:
The majority of these fellowships are fully funded, ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent talent from participating in the program.
Successful applicants receive their fees covered and a monthly stipend of £2,000 to manage their stay.
This stipend is designed to cover essential costs, including food, accommodation, and general living expenses.
The programme further supports fellows by covering travel to and from the United Kingdom along with any applicable visa costs.
Application requirement:
Prospective fellows must have at least five years of journalistic experience or demonstrate an equivalent level of expertise.
The fellowship is open to journalists from all over the world, including Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the Americas.
While freelancers are encouraged to apply, those working in public relations, corporate communications, or public affairs are strictly ineligible.
A core requirement for the fellowship is that applicants must plan to return to active journalism following the completion of the programme.
Candidates must submit a one-page project statement detailing a research idea that will impact their career and the wider news industry.
This should be accompanied by a 150-word summary of the proposed project and a one-page motivation statement.
The application also requires a two-page CV and two letters of reference from individuals familiar with the candidate’s professional work.
All documents must be uploaded as PDFs through the online application portal, with a size limit of 25 MB per document.
Deadline
Journalists must submit their completed applications through the portal no later than February 13, 2026, at 23:59 UK time. Click here to apply. Explore more global calls on our Opportunities page
