The Global Energy Association has announced that the next nomination cycle for the prestigious Global Energy Prize will officially begin in January 2026.

This annual call for applications seeks to bridge the gap between groundbreaking research and pressing global energy challenges.

Since its inception in 2003, the prize has recognized 56 scientists from 16 different countries, establishing itself as a pinnacle of achievement in the scientific community.

The upcoming cycle aims to further expand this reach, particularly into regions with rapidly growing energy needs, such as Africa and Latin America.

Funding and benefits

Winners of the 2026 cycle will share a substantial prize fund of 39 million rubles, which is approximately equivalent to $500,000.

This financial support serves to reward excellence and fuel further innovation within the international energy sector.

Beyond the monetary award, laureates will be celebrated at a formal ceremony in Moscow during the fall of 2026.

The event is held as part of the Russian Energy Week forum, providing winners with significant international visibility and professional networking opportunities.

Top-performing nominees who reach the shortlist may also receive honorary diplomas from the association.

This ensures that significant contributions from across the globe are recognized, even if they do not take home the primary prize.

Application requirement

Research and discoveries must fall into one of three specific categories: traditional energy, non-traditional energy, or new ways of energy application.

These categories ensure that both legacy power systems and future-facing technologies are represented.

It is critical to note that self-nominations are strictly prohibited under the award’s official regulations. Instead, nominations must be submitted by recognized scientists, research teams, or representatives of academic and scholarly organizations.

Submissions will undergo a rigorous review by independent experts who evaluate entries based on scientific novelty and practical significance.

This stage narrows the field to a shortlist of 15 candidates—five per category—from which the final winners are chosen.

Deadline

The window for submitting nominations opens on January 1 and will close on April 20, 2026. Visit the Global Energy Association website to apply. Explore more global calls on our Opportunities page.
