The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is offering the International Climate Protection Fellowship 2026, a fully funded research opportunity for prospective leaders and postdocs from non-European developing or transition countries.

The fellowship supports research projects focused on climate protection, resource conservation, and sustainability in Germany.

It aims to promote international cooperation and support leaders working on climate change mitigation, ecosystem preservation, and sustainable resource use.

The program focuses on practical solutions and research projects that contribute to climate protection.

Funding

Selected fellows receive a monthly stipend of €2,500-€3,000, mobility allowance, insurance subsidies, and research cost support.

They also get access to German language courses, networking opportunities, and a global alumni network.

People who can apply:

  • Citizens of non-European developing or transition countries
  • Prospective leaders with at least 24 months of practical climate-related experience or a Master’s degree with 12 months of experience
  • Postdocs with a PhD in climate protection or related fields, awarded within the last 4 years

Application requirements

Applicants must submit:

  • A completed application form with personal details, motivation letter, and research project proposal
  • Two recommendation letters (not older than 12 months)
  • A host statement and mentoring agreement from a German institution
