Startups and SMEs wanted for INCiTiS-FOOD Innovation call

INCiTiS-FOOD has launched its second open call for independent innovators, inviting practical solutions to food and nutrition challenges identified within its Living Labs across African cities.

The call targets innovations that can be tested, refined and scaled within real urban food system contexts.

Focus

The initiative supports innovations in soilless crop farming, recirculating aquaculture systems and insect farming.

Through co-creation and real-life testing, INCiTiS FOOD seeks to build inclusive and sustainable urban food systems tailored to African city environments. Strong emphasis is placed on user-led innovation, collaboration and scalable solutions.

Funding details

A total of USD 65,000 will be distributed among 24 selected innovators, with each Living Lab selecting three winners.

Beyond financial support, selected innovators will gain access to Living Lab facilities, technical expertise and real-world environments to pilot, test and refine their solutions over a four-month implementation period.

Eligibility criteria

The call is open to Independent Innovators based in cities hosting INCiTiS-FOOD Living Labs. Eligible applicants include:

  • Start-up entrepreneurs.

  • Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

  • Individual innovators legally able to sign a sub-grantee agreement.

Applicants must reside and operate within the specific Living Lab city to which they are applying.

Submission process

Proposals must be submitted in line with the official INCiTiS-FOOD application procedure.

Applicants are required to meet all eligibility criteria and submit complete documentation before the deadline on February 09, 2026.
