The Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) has opened applications for its Next Generation Resource Governance Leaders Programme, a professional development initiative designed to equip young Africans with the skills and experience needed to lead in energy and extractive governance.
The programme combines rigorous theoretical training with hands-on practice, preparing participants to address complex governance challenges through ethical, innovative and evidence-based approaches.
Aim
The programme seeks to build a strong pipeline of pan-African leaders capable of strengthening how Africa manages its energy and natural resources.
Training covers resource governance, transformational leadership, career development, digital communication and technology skills, with a strong emphasis on real-world application and policy impact.
Benefits
Selected participants will receive a generous stipend, daily lunch throughout the programme and decent accommodation for international fellows. ACEP will also cover an approved return flight to Ghana.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:

Young Africans residing in Africa, aged 32 or below

Academic background in economics, engineering, oil and gas, public policy, law, development studies, communications, statistics, or related fields

Strong analytical, writing and interpersonal skills

Demonstrated passion for sustainable and inclusive resource governance
Responsibilities
Selected NextGen Leaders will support ACEP’s work through research and policy writing, stakeholder engagement, programme planning, monitoring and evaluation, organisational development and resource mobilisation.
Participants will contribute directly to evidence-based policy work shaping Africa’s energy and extractive sectors.
