The Blue Food Fellowship is a global opportunity for emerging leaders committed to driving positive change across the blue food system.

The fellowship is part of the Blue Food Earth initiative, which seeks to transform how blue foods—such as fish, seaweed, and other aquatic foods—are produced, distributed, and consumed to support sustainability, nutrition and human health.

Focus

The fellowship focuses on blue food systems, including fisheries, aquaculture, and aquatic food value chains.

Its aim is to support innovative, evidence-based projects that promote sustainable blue food systems while improving nutrition, livelihoods and environmental outcomes.

Funding details

Selected fellows will receive:

  • $10,000 in research funding.

  • Travel support for fieldwork, stakeholder engagement and policy-related activities.

  • Access to a global network of blue food leaders, researchers and policy experts.

  • Opportunities for collaboration, mentorship and visibility within the blue food community.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be emerging leaders from any country.

  • Demonstrate strong interest in blue food systems and sustainability.

  • Show commitment to driving positive change in the blue food sector.

  • Propose a clear project idea or concept.

The fellowship is open to early-career researchers, professionals and practitioners from academia, government, non-governmental organisations, and the private sector who:

  • Have earned a PhD in a related field within the last five years, or

  • Are PhD candidates close to completing their studies

Application requirements

Applicants are required to submit:

  • A project proposal (maximum of five pages).

  • A CV or résumé.

  • One letter of recommendation.
