The Tarbell Centre for Civic Engagement and Democracy is now accepting applications for the Ida Tarbell Fellows Programme, a fellowship designed to support individuals committed to strengthening their communities through research, advocacy and civic action.

Aim

The fellowship supports community-based research and advocacy projects that advance civic engagement and democratic participation.
Its goal is to equip emerging leaders with the skills, knowledge and mentorship needed to drive meaningful, community-rooted change.

Funding details

Selected fellows will receive a $3,000 stipend to support the implementation of their projects.

The programme also offers:

  • Training sessions led by experienced practitioners and academics.

  • One-on-one mentorship throughout the project cycle.

  • Opportunities to build networks with peers engaged in civic and democratic work.

Eligibility

The programme welcomes applications from a diverse pool of emerging changemakers, including:

  • Undergraduate students

  • Recent graduates

  • Community activists

  • Emerging leaders working on civic or democracy-focused initiatives

Requirements

Applicants must submit:

  • A detailed project proposal outlining goals, methodology and expected outcomes

  • A resume

  • One letter of recommendation

Proposals should demonstrate clear community impact and a strong understanding of the issue being addressed.
