The IKI Small Grants Programme has opened its 7th international call for proposals, offering targeted funding for local and regional organisations working on climate and biodiversity solutions.
Part of Germany’s International Climate Initiative (IKI), the programme strengthens community-driven action in ODA-eligible countries by supporting practical, scalable and sustainable environmental interventions.
Funding details
Selected organisations will receive grants ranging from $60,000 to $200,000, depending on financial capacity and project scope.
Projects must run for 12 to 24 months, with implementation expected to begin in early 2027 or later.
Funding may only be used for costs directly related to implementation, and requested budgets must not exceed the organisation’s average annual revenue from the past three years.
Who can apply
The call is open to small and mid-sized organisations legally based in ODA-eligible countries. Applicants must demonstrate operational experience, financial stability, and the ability to manage international funding.
Ideal applicants:
-
Are a non-profit organisation or a non-profit-oriented private company
-
Are legally registered and active for at least three years
-
Have an average annual revenue of $60,000–$500,000 over the past three years
-
Use a software-based accounting system with internal and external controls
-
Have dedicated accounting personnel
-
Submit the full application in English
-
Implement projects locally, sub-nationally or nationally
Not Eligible: government bodies, public universities, branches of organisations from non-ODA countries, research-only projects, consortia, individuals or one-person organisations.
Priority areas
Project concepts must address one or more of IKI’s core priorities: reducing greenhouse gas emissions, adapting to climate impacts, conserving natural carbon sinks, or protecting biodiversity.
While research components are allowed, funded projects must prioritise real-world implementation and deliver tangible benefits to target communities.
Deadline
The application deadline is January 15, 2026. Interested candidates can apply via IKI’s website.
