GINGKO is now accepting applications for its Encounter Grant Programme, an initiative designed to strengthen mutual understanding between the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and the West.

The programme supports projects that bring people from both regions together in meaningful ways, fostering dialogue, shared learning and lasting relationships.

Focus areas

The fund prioritises projects led by individuals from the MENA region or those with MENA heritage, as well as joint initiatives between MENA-based and Western partners.

It is particularly interested in encounters hosted in communities with limited financial support for intercultural or interfaith engagement.

Eligible projects must demonstrate strong potential to create genuine two-way exchange and deepen cross-cultural understanding.

Funding details

The Encounter Grant provides up to three awards per year, with a maximum of $3,000 per project.

Funding may cover event logistics, travel, technology, accommodation, marketing and general operational costs. Applicants may allocate up to one-third of the grant to modest fees for organisers or contributors.

Grantees benefit from institutional backing, increased visibility, and the chance to develop scalable models for intercultural engagement.

Who can apply

Applicants must:

  • Show a clear commitment to strengthening understanding between the MENA region and the West.

  • Propose a project that directly brings participants from both regions together.

  • Demonstrate capability and suitability to lead the initiative.

  • Show financial need and confirm the project cannot proceed without GINGKO support.

  • Provide two professional references (including one academic reference for academic projects).

GINGKO welcomes first-time organisers and applicants without extensive prior experience.

Requirements

Applications must include:

  • A detailed project plan.

  • A clear schedule (with completion expected within two years).

  • Defined outcomes and intended impact.

  • A full budget outlining all expenses and expected funding sources.

Applicants must also agree to acknowledge GINGKO’s support in any published materials. References must be submitted from official or professional email addresses by the April 6 deadline.

Programme expectations

Funded projects must facilitate meaningful encounters—such as interfaith dialogue sessions, student exchanges or workshops focused on cultural or religious understanding.

Upon project completion, grantees must submit:

  • A 750–1000-word report

  • Final financial accounts

  • A short participant survey and photographs, where possible

These materials help document impact and demonstrate the value of the exchange.

Deadline
