The African Union has opened applications for the 4th Cohort of the African Youth Ambassadors for Peace (AYAP), a flagship initiative that empowers young leaders to drive peace, security and community resilience across the continent. The programme strengthens youth participation in regional peace processes while supporting the AU’s broader agenda for stability and development.

Focus

AYAPs play a strategic role in promoting dialogue, supporting conflict prevention and amplifying youth-led solutions. The initiative seeks young Africans who can influence regional conversations, inspire grassroots action, and contribute to long-term peacebuilding efforts in their home countries.

Benefits

Selected AYAPs receive support that may include training, mentoring, and access to AU platforms where they can influence policy. The programme may cover travel costs for regional meetings and provide small stipends or activity grants to support local initiatives. Ambassadors also gain visibility, networking opportunities and a chance to connect with funders and regional partners.

Who can apply

The call targets young Africans committed to peace and stability. Applicants should demonstrate leadership, experience in youth engagement and a passion for conflict prevention and mediation. Eligible applicants include:

  • Youth from any African Union member state

  • Individuals with experience in peacebuilding or community resilience

  • Young leaders active in mediation, advocacy, or regional cooperation initiatives

Regions represented

Applicants will be selected from the AU’s five regions:

  • North Africa

  • West Africa

  • Central Africa

  • East Africa

  • Southern Africa
