The Human Rights Advocates Programme is inviting applications from grassroots human-rights defenders seeking to strengthen their advocacy skills and engage with a global network of practitioners.

The programme supports professionals working directly with affected communities, offering advanced training, mentorship and international exposure to deepen their impact.

Focus areas

The initiative prioritises advocacy in key human rights areas, including

  • Gender-based and domestic violence

  • Minority and LGBTQI+ rights

  • Labour and migrant rights

  • Health and environmental justice

  • Disability rights and social inclusion

  • Corporate accountability

Participants gain practical knowledge, strategic tools and global networks that enhance their ability to drive systemic change.

Graduates return with strengthened skills, new strategies and expanded connections that help them influence policy, amplify community voices and lead impactful initiatives.

Who can apply

Eligible applicants should:

  • Be actively engaged in human rights work through an NGO

  • Work as lawyers, journalists, doctors, teachers, social workers or community organisers.

  • Be committed to grassroots advocacy, ideally balancing paid employment with ongoing fieldwork.

  • Demonstrate strong experience, commitment and capacity for graduate-level study.

  • Receive endorsement from their organisation to ensure reintegration after the programme.

  • Be fluent in English.

Application requirements

Applicants must provide:

  • Official organisational endorsement

  • Detailed documentation of their advocacy work

  • Clear demonstration of how they meet eligibility criteria.

Applicants from high-income countries must represent marginalised groups.
