The African Group of Negotiators Expert Support (AGNES) has opened applications for its training programme on Climate Governance, Diplomacy and Negotiations Leadership.
The initiative aims to strengthen Africa’s presence in global climate discussions by equipping emerging and established leaders with the skills needed to engage effectively in climate policy and international negotiations.
Focus
The programme seeks to build a new generation of African climate leaders capable of contributing meaningfully to both international negotiations and local climate action.
It focuses on enhancing participants’ understanding of climate science, leadership, and diplomacy, preparing them to influence decisions shaping the continent’s environmental future.
Structure
The course features four core modules: Physical Science Basis of Climate Change, IPCC Processes, Climate Leadership and Communications, and Climate Diplomacy and Negotiations.
Each module combines theory and practice—including simulations and role plays—to develop participants’ technical, communication and negotiation skills for real-world climate challenges.
What’s on offer
Selected participants will take part in expert-led sessions delivered by seasoned professionals in global climate policy and negotiations.
The programme offers opportunities to network with peers across Africa, access up-to-date insights on international climate frameworks and strengthen leadership capacity in climate governance.
Graduates will be well-prepared to represent Africa’s priorities and perspectives in international climate decision-making spaces.
