The Climate Change and Health Innovation Network for West and Central Africa (CHINNOVA) has launched its inaugural call for research proposals to generate critical evidence on how climate change impacts health across the region.
The programme seeks to strengthen research capacity by building and managing a collaborative network of experts working at the intersection of climate change and public health.
This first call prioritises innovative, evidence-based projects that test practical solutions to improve climate resilience, strengthen health systems, and enhance community well-being.
Funding Details
Supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), CHINNOVA plans to fund 8–10 research projects that address critical climate-health challenges in West and Central Africa.
Final funding decisions and grant sizes will depend on proposal quality and available resources. Selected projects will run for up to 18 months.
Eligibility
Applications are open to organisations actively engaged in climate and health research within eligible countries in West and Central Africa.
The programme emphasises cross-sector collaboration, encouraging proposals that bring together diverse disciplines and regional partners. Individual researchers are not eligible; only institutional or consortium-led applications will be considered.
Eligible applicants include:
-
Research institutions and universities
-
Multi-stakeholder consortia
-
Partnerships involving academic institutions, NGOs, civil society organizations, and private sector actors
Requirements
CHINNOVA strongly encourages multi-country research collaborations. Such projects must clearly define their scope and ensure appropriate budgeting.
Proposals should demonstrate rigorous methodologies, context-specific evidence, and measurable outcomes that can inform policy and practice in the region.
Duration
Each selected project will run for 18 months, allowing time for data collection, stakeholder engagement, analysis and dissemination of results across the CHINNOVA network.
These research efforts are expected to directly contribute to building regional expertise and institutional capacity in climate-health innovation.
Deadline
The application deadline is 25 October 2025.
