This weekend’s watchlist explores the stories of people pushed to the limits—whether breaking barriers in 1950s Sweden, surviving the fury of wildfires or wrestling with love. Each film is a testament to choice, resilience and the human spirit.

The New Force (Netflix)

In 1958, Sweden welcomed its first generation of female police officers, trailblazers stepping into a male-dominated force with hope and grit. But enthusiasm quickly dims when the women are forced to patrol in skirts, setting them up for humiliation and danger. A riveting drama about courage and the fight for gender equality.

Ruth and Boaz (Netflix)

A modern-day retelling of one of most iconic love stories in the Bible. A young woman fleeing Atlanta’s chaotic music scene, a young woman finds refuge in Tennessee, where she cares for a grieving widow. Compassion blossoms into belonging and soon into love—revealing both the partner and the family she never knew she was searching for.

Play Dirty (Prime video)

A cold-blooded thief and his crew plan the ultimate heist in this action comedy based on a crime novel. What begins as a flawless operation unravels into a ruthless game of betrayals, double-crosses and survival—one where loyalty is fleeting and greed could cost everything.

The lost bus (Apple tv)

When school bus driver Kevin McKay takes a wrong turn, 22 children become trapped in the path of a raging inferno. Short on time, he and a determined schoolteacher navigate winding back roads where the smoke clouds his windscreen to bring every child to safety. Matching volatile action with raw emotions, director Paul Greengass provides a visceral experience of the 2018 wildfires that ravaged thousands of acres in Northern California.

Steve (Netflix)

At a struggling reform college, headteacher Steve fights to keep the institution alive while grappling with his own mental-health challenges. Meanwhile, Shy, a volatile but vulnerable student, teeters between self-destruction and redemption. Their intertwined journeys paint a raw portrait of leadership, resilience and the fragile line between breaking and becoming.
