Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a relevant terminal degree (MD, PhD, DVM, DO, OD, or equivalent).

  • Be professionally trained and permitted by their institutions to lead independent research.

  • Serve as the principal investigator (PI) and have access to independent laboratory space.

  • Work at a nonprofit, governmental, academic, or for-profit research institution, including startups and biotech firms.

  • Postdoctoral fellows may apply as co-principal investigators for the standard award.

Application Guidelines

Applicants must adhere to the following formatting and submission instructions:

  • Use a font size no smaller than 11 points.

  • Maintain margins of at least ¾ inch on all sides.

  • Ensure narrative text is in black and written in clear, jargon-free English.

  • Legibility is essential—applications not meeting basic formatting rules may be rejected.

  • Word/page/character limits will be strictly enforced across all sections.

  • Any figure legends, tables, or images must fit within the designated limits.
