The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is inviting community-based civil society organisations (CSOs) operating in Benue State to submit proposals for a project focused on protecting and empowering children in humanitarian crises.

This initiative aims to support children and adolescent girls and boys living in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps and host communities—specifically in Makurdi, Guma, Gwer West, and Logo Local Government Areas (LGAs).

Project Objectives

The project seeks to:

  • Strengthen community-based child protection systems.

  • Build the capacity of local structures to identify, report, respond to, and refer cases of violence, abuse, sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), exploitation, neglect, and harmful practices.

  • Establish and train Community-Based Child Protection Structures (CBCPS) and Auxiliary Social Workers (ASWs) to improve localised case management systems.

  • Ensure children receive timely referrals to formal services, including mental health and psychosocial support.

Focus Sectors

Proposals should align with one or more of the following areas:

  • Child Protection

  • Family Reunification

  • Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention and Response

  • Legal Assistance and Access to Justice

  • Crime and Violence Prevention

  • Emergency Protection

Expected Results

  • 60 government personnel trained in social welfare service delivery.

  • 18 CBCPS established through training of 228 community representatives.

  • 60 auxiliary social workers trained and deployed across 14 camps and host communities.

  • 1,400 dignity kits and 140 recreational kits distributed in target LGAs.

  • 750 IEC materials produced and shared across camps.

  • 84 community dialogue sessions conducted, reaching 37,000 participants.

  • 50 service directories produced, and 65 staff trained.

  • 700 children affected by violence reached with health, social work, or justice services.

  • 56 monitoring visits conducted, with full reports documented.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is inviting community-based civil society organizations (CSOs) in Benue State to submit proposals for a project aimed at protecting and empowering children in humanitarian crises. This initiative specifically focuses on children and adolescent girls and boys living in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps and host communities within the Makurdi, Guma, Gwer West, and Logo Local Government Areas.

The project aims to strengthen community-based child protection systems, enhance local capacities to address violence, abuse, and gender-based violence, and ensure timely referrals to formal services such as mental health support. It also intends to establish Community-Based Child Protection Structures (CBCPS) and deploy trained auxiliary social workers. Proposals should target areas such as child protection, family reunification, gender-based violence prevention and response, legal assistance, and emergency protection.

Expected outcomes include training 60 government personnel in social welfare services, establishing 18 CBCPS, deploying 60 auxiliary social workers, distributing dignity and recreational kits, producing informational materials, and conducting community dialogue sessions. The project will also facilitate access to services for 700 children affected by violence. Proposals can be submitted until July 25, 2025, through the designated UNICEF portal.
