The Federal Ministry of Education is calling on Nigerian youths interested in vocational skills to apply for its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Initiative.

The TVET Initiative is a flagship programme aimed at equipping young Nigerians with practical skills for employment and entrepreneurship. It is part of the government’s broader strategy to reduce unemployment, foster innovation, and drive national development through vocational excellence.

Key Features of the TVET Initiative:
The programme is implemented in partnership with certified training centers nationwide and offers the following benefits:

  • Tuition-free training

  • Monthly stipends

  • Start-up support in selected high-demand trades

Programme Objectives:

  • Close Nigeria’s skills gap

  • Empower youth for self-reliance

  • Create a pipeline of skilled workers for industries

  • Promote national development through vocational excellence

Programme Options

The TVET Initiative offers two flexible training pathways:

1. Short-Term Certificate (STC) Programme

  • Duration: 6 months

  • Ideal for: First-time trainees, school leavers, or individuals with no formal education

  • Entry Requirements:

    • Valid National Identification Number (NIN)

    • Valid Bank Verification Number (BVN)

    • No prior educational qualification required

This track is designed for individuals ready to quickly acquire practical skills and enter the workforce.

2. Vocational Education & Innovation (VEI) Programme

  • Duration: 1 year

  • Ideal for: Individuals with some educational background or informal training experience

  • Entry Requirements: Any of the following:

    • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) – proof of skills acquired informally or through apprenticeship

    • First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC)

    • Any non-formal education certificate (e.g., training by NGOs, religious institutions, nomadic education, or community programs)

Training Locations

Training is available in:

  • All 6 geopolitical zones

  • Federal and State Technical Colleges

  • State-owned accredited institutions

  • Registered private vocational centers

How to Apply

  1. Create an account on the official portal: tvet.education.gov.ng

  2. Choose your preferred programme (STC or VEI)

  3. Fill in your personal details and upload required documents

  4. Select your preferred training center and trade

  5. Submit your application and await confirmation
