PEN/Faulkner, a leading organisation dedicated to promoting fiction writing, is inviting applications for the Lisa Page Literary Education Fellowship.
This one-year, part-time fellowship offers fiction writers with teaching experience a unique opportunity to inspire the next generation of writers in Washington, D.C. public schools.
The fellowship, named in honour of longtime PEN/Faulkner board member Lisa Page, may be renewed for a second year based on performance and funding.
Key Responsibilities

Writers in Residence Program: Plan, schedule, and lead approximately 24 sessions across two D.C. schools over the academic year.

Writing Workshops Program: Plan, schedule, and lead approximately 40 workshops throughout the year.

Author Support: Facilitate around 75 author visits as part of the Writers in Schools and Writers in Schools-Nuestras Voces programmes.

Program Support: Assist the Director of Education Programs with various tasks as needed.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants should have the following qualifications:

Ability to pass a state-mandated background check and drug/alcohol test, as required by partner schools.

Established creative writing practice.

Spanish-speaking skills (preferred but not required).

Strong organisational and time-management skills.

Reliable internet access and technology with audio and video capabilities.

Enthusiasm for working with students in grades 3-12.

Ability to design and deliver engaging, skills-based creative writing lessons.
Fellowship Benefits
The selected fellow will receive a salary of $30,000 plus additional benefits, including:
