The French Institute for Research (IFRA-Nigeria) is inviting researchers interested in social science in West Africa to submit proposals for its Call for Research Projects.
Located within the Institute of African Studies at the University of Ibadan, the research outfit has a regional vocation to promote research in the humanities and social sciences across ten West African countries, including Benin and Togo.
For a period running from April 2025 until March 2026, IFRA-Nigeria is financing ten research projects, either individual (field missions, stays in archives, etc.) or collective (collective projects, organization of scientific events, etc.).
The projects must be in line with one of the four research axes of the Institute and must mention a “valorisation” component in connection with IFRA-Nigeria:
Axis 1: Beliefs, bodies and health
Axis 2: Citizenship, gender and mobilization
Axis 3: Heritage dynamics and environment
Transversal axis: Digital Humanities
Particular attention will be paid to interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary projects and to research rooted with stakeholders outside academia.
Grant Information
IFRA-Nigeria grants range from €500 to €1,500, depending on the nature of the project.
Eligibility Requirements
- This call is addressed to master’s Students – Doctoral Students – Post-Doctoral Students – Researchers.
- No nationality requirements apply.
- Sustainable partnerships with institutions and/or researchers in the host country are strongly encouraged.
- The financial participation of another institution is strongly encouraged (research laboratories, UFR, doctoral schools, etc.).
Application Requirements
- A letter of motivation (1 page maximum (Font size = 12, automatic margins and paragraph size)).
- A CV (3 pages maximum).
- A detailed description of the research project not exceeding 4 pages (Font size = 12, automatic margins and paragraph size), including a scientific project, a detailed work plan (dates, itinerary, objectives, etc.), the list of institutional partnerships and the perspectives of valorisation (publications, oral communications, etc.) and a bibliography.
